What Happens Inside a 4 Day Ayahuasca Retreat at Ayahuasca House, Medellin, Colombia?

At Ayahuasca House, we offer 4-day immersive Ayahuasca Retreats in an incredible environment near Medellin, Colombia.

The retreats always begin on Wednesday morning where you’ll arrive to be greeted by our friendly and experienced team, shown round the house and taken to leave your things in your room. Members of our team speak fluent English, Spanish and German and we specialize in the care of patients from all parts of the world.

At Ayahuasca House everyone has a comfy and warm bed to sleep in and our shared rooms each have an en-suite bathroom with a great shower and warm water for you to enjoy. The house is always kept incredibly clean and the garden and view outside is amazing.

We’ll then begin with introductions, usually round the fire, where we’ll give an overview of everything that will be happening and you’ll have the chance to ask any questions you’d like.

Once this is done we go straight into the first Kambo ceremony.

What’s Kambo?

Kambo is a indigenous medicine used and found across the Amazon that comes from the secretion of a frog. The frog is treated with great respect and has been known across many tribes, as well as the Western world to help cure and heal a whole range of illnesses.

However it’s not just for those with illnesses. Before drinking Ayahuasca, it’s a fantastic full body detox and energy cleanse, preparing you perfectly for the ceremonies ahead as well as boosting your immune system and renovating your cells.

The Kambo ceremony is a short and intense experience (typically 20 minutes to half an hour). When you’re here, we’ll be sure to explain every aspect of the process, what you can expect and answer any questions you have.

One thing to bear in mind is it’s crucial not to eat or drink anything but water for 6 hours before a Kambo ceremony. Therefore we ask that you leave breakfast and any other drinks aside for Wednesday morning.

After Kambo, you’re invited to relax for a couple of hours until lunch.

The Food

We pride ourselves on serving you some of the nicest and healthiest food you’ll find anywhere in the world. We buy a whole range of organic fruits and vegetables with the best quality ingredients to accompany everything, and our team has years of experience cooking for retreat participants across the world.

When we consider that food is one of the most important medicines there is, and a simple way to live our best lives is to eat well, we apply this thought process to every aspect of our menu. We assure you, you won’t be disappointed!

After lunch you’re able to relax in our beautiful house and garden for a few hours until the first Ayahuasca Ceremony that will typically begin at 7pm.

Ayahuasca Ceremony

It’s very difficult to describe with words in a blog what happens during an Ayahuasca Ceremony but we’ll try to give a short description…

The term Ayahuasca (in Colombia known as Yagé) denotes a tea-like brew, often referred to as medicine, which is used in ceremonies across the world to help you enter an altered state of consciousness. The brew is made from the Ayahuasca (Banisteriopsis caapi) vine, in combination with a leaf called chacruna (Psychotria viridis), both naturally found in the Amazon.

Ayahuasca

DMT is the chemical that Ayahuasca produces which is a chemical that occurs naturally in the brain and body and is associated with dreaming and the visions that accompany near-death experiences (it's present in almost all plants and animals).

Because of this divinatory potential, Ayahuasca is classed as a plant entheogen (a substance that allows discovery of God within).

During the ceremonies you’ll likely experience almost every range of emotions there are, see visions of your past, as well as beautiful colors and shapes you’ve never imagined before.

A ceremony will typically last around 3 to 4 hours and you’ll be accompanied throughout by experienced experts to take care of you and make sure you have the best experience possible.

Through these visions and emotions, magical healing processes regularly take place, helping you to understand and overcome past traumas in moments, as well as lighting up your future to a world of dreams and possibilities.

As we said at the start, it’s incredibly difficult to write what happens during an Ayahuasca Ceremony so feel free to reach out with any questions you have.

  • The personalized psychotherapy is a big part of the experience and will be arranged to fit in with the schedule

  • Various additional medicines are included as part of the experience that we’ll explain throughout dependent on your wishes

  • Hot drinks, fruit and snacks are always available during the retreat as long as they don't interfere with a ceremony

Why 4 Days?

The first two days are typically to detoxify your body from the toxins throughout and to lower your stress levels.

In many cases people feel very little from the medicine at the beginning. To transform your life and to truly heal is nearly impossible in just 1 or 2 ceremonies.

We do a really serious job at Ayahuasca House and our goal isn't just to sell an Ayahuasca experience, we do complete therapies with our participants and all the work necessary so you have the most profound experience possible.
