How to Prepare for an Ayahuasca Retreat at Ayahuasca House

We're so happy you're thinking about coming to an Ayahuasca Retreat at Ayahuasca House near Medellin, Colombia.

To find out a bit more about exactly what happens during the retreat you can:

We wanted to share with you a few recommendations that will help make your retreat as beneficial as possible if you choose to come visit us:

Diet Before the Retreat

The most important thing is you're well fed to have the strength to withstand the purge and energy cleanse these 4 days will bring. However, we recommend you avoid dairy products, industrial sugar, white flour, pork and red meat a week before the retreat.

The First Day

We go straight into a Kambo ceremony at 9am on the first day of your retreat at Ayahuasca House.

It’s essential to be fasted for at least 6 hours before the ceremony. Therefore please don’t eat or drink anything apart from water before arriving at our house this day.

Marijuana

Using marijuana affects the ability for ayahuasca to enter your system. We recommend you to stop using marijuana 2 weeks before the retreat, the more time, the better.

Also if you use any recreational drugs, their use should be stopped.

Medication

It’s not possible to drink Ayahuasca when you’re taking psychiatric (anti-depressant/ anti-anxiety) medication. Please let us know if you’re taking this medication and we'll help you as best we can. As a concrete rule, use must be stopped at least 2 weeks before the retreat.

There can be restrictions for people who have pacemakers in your heart so also let us know if this is the case for you and we'll discuss everything with you before taking part.

Can I Drink Ayahuasca During Menstruation?

Yes, and 100% yes! Amazing uterus healings occur when drinking in this state!

There isn't any contraindication to drink ayahuasca in your sacred menstrual cycle and there's no logic to deny anyone to drink ayahuasca during any part of their menstrual cycle. Some cultures deny women in menstruation. However these are only domain-based beliefs.

Phones, Social Media and Technology

When you arrive at the retreat and before the retreat we encourage you to use your phones, computers and social media as little as possible.

We understand that people need to stay connected with some things. However the retreat is an opportunity for you to disconnect and truly be with yourself. Please be mindful to use these tools as little as possible when you're here, and be aware that phones are not allowed during ceremonies or at the table while eating to encourage connection.

What to Pack

We provide towels, blankets, duvets, pillows and great beds. There's also nice warm water. Our retreat home is at about 2,150 meters above sea level and it tends to be warm in the day and cool at night, so please bring comfortable warmer clothes for the evening ceremonies.

Arriving at Our Home

Our house is 30 minutes from the international airport of Medellin and 45 minutes from the city of Medellin. After confirming your retreat, we'll provide all the information on how you can arrive here.
